Signature: signed, dated and numbered at the base lower right Medium: bronze (no. 2 from an edition of 6) Dimensions: 50 by 33cm., 19.7 5 by 13in. In September 2008 Dublin born Rory Breslin presented his commemorative bronze of Richard Crosbie to the residents of Ranelagh, Dublin. Unveiled by Councillor Mary Freehill and Irish Times columnist Fr... rank McNally among others, this work was commissioned in memory of the achievements of Ireland's first aviator who launched his hydrogen balloon from Ranelagh Gardens and made a short flight across Dublin landing at Clontarf on 19 January 1785. This extraordinary feat, which was witnessed by many Dubliners of the day, occurred only 14 months after the first-ever manned balloon flight by the Montgolfier Brothers in France. A limited edition of six, this bronze head study for the full length work symbolises the exciting scientific discoveries of the late 1700s as well as being an inherently beautiful work, and testament to Breslin's abilities in the medium more
