Marca tipografica incisa su legno al frontespizio. Esemplare con barbe in buono stato di conservazione, arrossature. Legatura coeva in cartonato alla rustica. Al recto della sguardia anteriore timbro di possesso "Raccolta Nannini Modena", altro timbro di difficile lettura al frontespizio, ma riconducibile alla medesima proprietà. Prima edizione di questo trattato di Lodovico Ricci (per il nome dell'Autore si veda Hollis, Catalog Harward University) la cui pubblicazione è posteriore al 29 novembre 1787, data presente in calce al testo a c. O3r. Si tratta di un testo fondamentale sotto il profilo economico, ma anche sociale, perché tratta il problema della gestione e dell'amministrazione della carità, e più ampiamente, tutto ciò che riguarda la politica assistenzialista dei pii istituti della città di Modena alla fine del XVIII secolo, da un punto di vista innovativo, considerato precursore di quello del britannico Thomas Malthus. L'Autore affronta la questione in maniera scientifica e sistematica, partendo dal presupposto che l'elemosina nella maggior parte dei casi arrechi agli indigenti più danni che non benefici: l'assistenza ai poveri non deve essere soltanto materiale, bensì condurre gli individui - quando abili al lavoro - ad affrancarsi dallo stato di necessità procurandosi da sé quanto necessario ad una vita dignitosa. First edition of this work by Lodovico Ricci (for the name of the author see HOLLIS, Harward University Catalogue) which publication was after the 29th of November 1787, date written in the text on fol. O3r. it is a fundamental economic text, but also social, because talks about the problem of the management and administration of the charity, and more broadly, everything about the welfare policy of the pious institutions of the city of Modena in the late eighteenth century, from an innovative point of view, considered a precursor of the one of the British economist Thomas Malthus. The author addresses the issue in a scientific and systematic way, assuming that alms in many cases causes to indigents more damage than benefit: the assistance to the poor should be not only material, but lead individuals - when able to work - to procure for themselves what is necessary for a dignified life.
