DS, one page, quarto, Camp on Winter Hill, Oct. 18. 1775. A Return of Vacancies in Col: Starks Regt.... Listing the names of eight men either absent or recommended to fill a position. Stark (1728-1822), a New Hampshire resident, Revolutionary solider and hero at battles of Bunker Hill and Bennington, had a long, and distinguished career serving his country. During the French and Indian War he saw extensive service with Roger's Rangers, and was present at both the attack on Fort William Henry and the assault on Ticonderoga and the reduction of Crown Point. At the outbreak of the Revolutionary War, Stark led a regiment of New Hampshire patriots. His troops defended the American left at the Battle of Bunker Hill and at the Battle of Bennington captured almost the entire force of the British under the command of General Baum. Archivally framed with a hand-colored engraving of Stark in uniform, 22 x 12." A fine rarity from the Revolution. Provenance: Ex John Armiger Collection Condition: Left margin of document with evidence of archival repair, including laying-in of a strip of laid paper, else EXC. Not examined out of frame.
