REVOLUTIONARY WAR]. GEORGE III. Document signed ("George R."), London, 21 December 1794. Countersigned by Home Secretary William Henry Bentinck (1738-1809), Duke of Portland ("Portland"), and by Secretary at War ("J. Lewis"). 1 page, oblong folio, on vellum. Two paper seals along left edge. Laid down. Matted and framed. Not examined out of frame . A ROYAL COMMISSION FOR THE NAPOLEONIC WARS, making Thomas Watts a Second Lieutenant in the Dundee Corps of Volunteers. Britain mobilized its armed forces to try and crush the revolutionary armies of France, and would remain at war for most of the next twenty years. Portland, as Home Secretary, was both an enthusiastic champion of the campaign against France, and a ruthless suppressor of any hint of domestic radicalism. -- GEORGE III.
