QIAN HUI'AN (1833-1911) Zhong Kui Folding fan, ink and colour on paper 18.5 x 48 cm. (7 1/4 x 19 in.) Inscribed with a poem and signed, with one seal of the artist Dedicated to Suixuan Dated summer, gengyin year (1950) Calligraphy by Jin Erzhen (1840-1919) on reverse Inscribed and signed, with two seals of the artist NOTE: Born in Jiaxing in Zhejiang, Jin Erzhen (1840-1919) resided in Shanghai in his later years and earning his livign by selling paintings. Jin was proficient in connoisseurship and seal carving, and he also excelled in painting subjects like landscapes and plum blossoms. Associated with masters like Wu Changshuo (1844-1927) and Ren Yi (1840-1895), he was actively involved in the establishment of the Shanghai Yu Garden Calligraphy and Paintings Society.
