A half-length seated portrait of the operatic composer, inscribed vertically across the right side of the image: "To Miss Violet Leverson from Giacomo Puccini Torre del Lago." "His heartrending, lushly romantic tragic operas (including Madame Butterfly and La Bohème ) live up to the ideal expressed by one of his heroes: 'He who has lived for love, has died for love'"--W.M.
