Title: Program for Curtis' `Indian Picture Opera' Author: Curtis, Edward S. Place: Seattle Publisher: Date: 1912 Description: 4 pp., folding. With illustration of a totem pole in red on pp. 1 & 4. 9x6. Uncommon piece of Edward Curtis ephemera, the program for the presentation of his pictures and tales of Native Americans, midway through his production of his massive 20-volume and 20-portfolio set of The North American Indian. A description of that undertaking is given, noting that "Fourteen years and $400,000 have been spent in this fascinating task... The material now in his hands constitutes the richest and most absorbing in its interest in his twenty-volume work issued under the patronage of J. Pierpont Morgan, of New York, and which will cost when finished $1,500,000." (Which figure is, coincidentally, about what a single set of the work sells for in today's market.) Reviews of the Indian Picture Opera from east coast performances are also given, and it is noted that this is the first west coast production. Lot Amendments Condition: Very slight vertical crease, near fine. Item number: 167713
