POST MEDIEVAL GERMAN BALLOON DIVISION ENAMELLED RING Early 20th century AD A silver-coloured metal ring comprising a D-section hoop with flanges to the shoulders and large square bezel with reserved images on a black enamelled field of a balloon with lateral wings attached to a basket(?) between two rectilinear insignia. 14 grams, 22mm overall, 19.02mm internal diameter (approximate size British R 1/2, USA 9, Europe 19.69, Japan 19) (1"). Fine condition. [No Reserve] Provenance From an old Hampshire collection; acquired London military fair, 1995. Footnotes Balloon units were attached to most armies in the early 20th century where they were used in the observation role and for artillery spotting.
