Porter, Cole UNPUBLISHED TYPESCRIPT OF "A MEMOIR OF COLE PORTER" BY HIS SECRETARY MADELINE P. SMITH, TOGETHER WITH OTHER LETTERS ABOUT PORTER a typescript of a series of tape-recorded interviews made in 1977, revised throughout by the author in blue ink and pencil, including additions, corrections and deletions, and several passages redacted, with an introduction and an index, 110 pages in all, 4to (c.28 x 21.5cm), blue plasticized binder, [c.1977] together with copies of letters dictated by Porter relating to his life and work ("... I composed "Begin the Beguine" in New Guinea on a cruise around the world with Moss Hart ...''), Porter's will and autopsy report, documents relating to Porter's grave and headstone, letters and cards about Porter, mostly addressed to Madeline Smith, from Carol Channing, Anita Loos (13), Douglas Fairbanks Jr. (3) and Mary Pickford (including a signed photograph of the glamorous couple with their children ("Affectionate Greetings to Cole and Linda Mary P and Douglas ...''), Joan Fontaine, Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne (14), Art Carney, Bella Spewack, Fred Astaire, Kitty Collidge, Norma Shearer (a telegram) and others, sheets of stamps,a book prepared by Main Bocher and Douglas Pollard depicting Linda Porter's house, Buxton Hill, its garden, flowers, furniture and works of art, as a present while she was in hospital.
