POMPEII -- An album of original gouache copies of wall-paintings and decorative objects from Pompeii, [n.d. but album watermarked J Whatman 1843]. 4° album (286 x 230mm) with images variously sized (ca. 230 x 130mm. to 165 x 130mm). 19 original gouaches mounted on thick oatmeal paper within ruled borders. (6 with slight damage to surface of image, one with an old tear.) Purple moroccco, tooled in gilt and blind, g.e. Provenance : J.F., A.C., and J.M. Macnabb (inscriptions on front free endpaper). A fine collection of 'grand tour' souvenirs of real and imagined wall-decoration from Pompeii, almost certainly by a local Neopolitan artist, collected by a British tourist and mounted in the album upon their return.
