Important Reading, Pennsylvania Chippendale walnut tall case clock, ca. 1795, the broken arch bonnet highly adorned with carved floral vines, enclosing an eight day works, signedGeorge Fix, over a case with floral and diaper carved quarter columns and tall ogee bracket feet, 93" h. The present clock is one of the finest Reading clocks known and remains in remarkable condition. A closely related case, although lacking some of the present clock's embellishments, is illustrated in Machmer,Berks County Tall Case Clocks, pg. 41. Provenance: descended in the family to the present owner. Condition: Rosettes replaced. Chips to finial. A couple small losses to applied carving on base panel corners. Overall very good.
