Beschreibung:

An exquisite painted leaded glass window. 40 inch by 68 inch (glass only), 47 inch, by 77 inch (framed). Rarely does a painted window of this caliber come up for auction. A monument to the painter's and glazer's art, this exceptional work is a textbook of decorative art glass techniques and masterful execution. The central glass painting depicting a young woman feeding the birds and animals is flawlessly rendered in a late nineteenth, early twentieth century European style. The unfailing hand of the glass painter is evident in the sensitive treatment of every detail of the composition, from the obscured background landscape to the foreground details and embellishments, to the speck of food perched within the young lady's lips. Shading, perspective, and color all blend in a perfectly balanced portrait of country elegance. The surrounding leaded glasswork is expertly executed, displaying fine craftsmanship and a superior use of supporting design elements. An intricate weave of pencil shaped, ribbon and leaf shaped beveled glass interspersed with amber borders and faceted jewels set a glittering stage for the painting without any distraction. The soft shades of lavender, white, blue, and pink opal extend the background of the painting to the edges of this beautifully framed leaded masterpiece. In excellent overall condition. - A spectacular window from the Germania Club of Chicago, Illinois. When the Germania Club of Chicago celebrated their 100th anniversary in 1965, and extensive history was recorded. Included in their records were the policies, ideals, and their creed - which we find noteworthy. - Our Policies and Ideals - To bring together American citizens of German extraction, and to foster and perpetuate German cultural ideals and the fine inheritance known as Gemuetlichkeit. To foster admiration for the United States of America, it's Constitution, laws, traditions, and political institutions, and to uphold its independence. To develop and encourage the physical, moral, and cultural life of its members. To promote the welfare and enhance the happiness of its members, and to encourage a better understanding and appreciation of the fine and beautiful things of life by such cultural features as musical and literary programs, art exhibits, lectures, and high-minded discussions. - Our Creed -We, members of Germania Club, American citizens of German extraction, believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people, whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union, one and inseparable, established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity, and founded upon the principle of an independent destiny, for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes. - We, therefore, believe that it is not only our privilege, but also our duty to love our country, to support its constitution and its traditions, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies. - When many historical buildings were to be demolished in the Chicago reclamation project, the Germania club president bought and donated many beautiful windows to the club. This window is documented several times throughout the club's bicentennial booklet. This window hung for many years in a shadow box above he club's fireplace, and to this day remains in pristine condition. Painted Leaded Glass Window
