London: printed by the author, 1675 Volume I (all published), 2° (414 x 265mm). Half-title. Ruled in red throughout (other than half-title). Engraved frontispiece, folding map of England and 100 strip road maps, 92 double-page, 8 folding, 6 engraved initials and 6 head-pieces. Small tear to lower margin of one map, rust-hole in B1.) 19th-century calf gilt (joints slightly split, extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance : Edward Henry Scott (armorial bookplate). A FINE TALL COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION, extravagantly ruled in red, of Ogilby's famous road book. "This is the first survey of the roads of England and Wales... [the strip road maps] show the main roads only, with the cross-roads indicated. The distances are shown in miles along the roads, and the villages and mansions named, and in some cases the names of the residents are given": Chubb C; Wing O-168.
