Thesaurus Ciceronis. Basel: Hervagius per Eusebium Episcopium, 1583. Folio (358 x 216 mm). [10] ff, 1539 columns, [4] ff. Double column. Woodcut printer's device on title and at end. Period German blindstamped calf, central panel of allegorical rolls: "Fides-Spes-Carit[as]-Prude[ntia]" within a broad border, two brass clasps. Spine ends and edges chipped, minor rubbing. Provenance: Markus Fugger[?] (18th century shelfmark identified as pertaining to his collection in the laid-in catalog description); R. Von Clodh (ownership inscription dated 1719 on title). Popular Renaissance dictionary in a fine German binding, possibly for Markus Fugger [1529-1597]. This edition includes the revisions of the evangelical Marcello Squarcialupi which first appeared in 1576. Nizzoli was a major proponent of the idea that Cicero's vocabulary was the canon of the Latin language. Not in Adams.
