NELSON, Horatio, Viscount (1758-1805). Autograph letter signed ('Nelson & Bronte') to Evan Nepean [secretary of the Navy], Yarmouth, 7 March 1801, one page, 4to (weaknesses at folds, yellowed, laid down); together with three apparently contemporary newspaper cuttings relating to the battle of Trafalgar (yellowed, backed onto card). 'STRIKE QUICK AND HOME'. Nelson in high spirits on the eve of his departure for the Baltic and the battle of Copenhagen: 'Troubridge tells me you will have the goodness to give or lend me a sett of charts of the Baltic. I only now long to be gone, time is precious ... Strike quick and home, and may we soon return Victorious'; postscripts refer to [Sir Thomas] Troubridge and Sir Hyde [Parker, the commander of the Baltic fleet], who 'as yet ... has not opened his mouth to me'.
