Provenance: Descended through the family of the maker's husband, Artemas Hemenway. Indiana Fitch was born May 24, 1801, in Groton, Massachusetts, the daughter of Zachariah Fitch and Amelia Blood. She married Artemas Hemenway on December 6, 1821 and resided in Pepperell, Massachusetts. Together they had six children, one of whom, Eliza Hemenway, stitched the sampler in lot 481.
