Lot of 5 volumes from the mid-19th century Natural History of New York Series. The New York State Museum began its survey of the state in 1836, with the first publications appearing in 1842 with the Zoology/Fauna, the first Geology and Mineralogy volumes. Flora of New York was next in 1843, followed by a four-part set on the geological districts, five volumes on agriculture, then the monumental Paleontology set published between 1847 and 1894. This group includes all four Geology volumes plus the single Mineralogy volume. Beck, Lewis C. Small folio, 3/4 leather over marbled paper, 683pp, plus map and profile, errata, 19 numb. plates, but plate 6 has three folding profiles (VI, 6a and 6b). Condition: Mineralogy binding still tight. Shelf wear and wear to spine; minor insect damage along hinges. Leaves clean for the most part. Geology vol. 1 in very good condition; heavy shelf wear and hinges rough, but leaves in good condition, and folding map doesn't appear to have ever been unfolded. Geology vol.2 in good condition, with wear to the boards and spine, hinges starting. Internally clean with only a few edges of folding profiles (esp. IX) with some toning and stains. Geology vol. 3 in very good condition. Similar wear to other volumes on boards and spine; internally mostly clean with a bit of toning to page edges. Geology vol. 4 in very good condition. Wear to boards, but internally clean. Folding map hardly ever unfolded. A few pages have toned, but appears to be a property of the paper quality (not poor storage).
