The Neapolitan philosopher Giovanni Battista Vico's account of the celebration commemorating the translation of the remains of CARLO DI SANGRO and GIUSEPPE CAPECA, two anti-Spanish rebels, to the Church of San Domenico Maggiore in Naples. Di Sangro had died in a battle with the governmental police in 1701 and Capeca was beheaded the following year. When the Austrians occupied Naples in 1707, the two men were proclaimed martyrs and funeral services were arranged for them on 23-24 February 1708 by order of the viceroy, Count Wierich von Daun.
