Mounted on panel and backed with fabric. 18 1/2 x 15 1/2 in. Note: The fragment is probably the central element of the original tapestry's border, depicts the Royal Arms of Great Britain, following the Acts of Union 1707. The first and fourth quarters depict the impaled Royal Arms of England and Scotland. This format was only used between 1707 and 1714 (the last years of Queen Anne's reign). It is possible that the fragment is of English manufacture, the Crown having commissioned a number of tapestries from the Soho factory (then managed by John Vanderbank the Elder). Condition: Fragmentary in nature, faded and stained. Reinforced at edges where it has come apart. Not withstanding this report or any discussion concerning condition of a lot, all lots are offered and sold "as is" in accordance with our conditions of sale.
