This is one of a small series of paintings by Ross Wilson in 1990 celebrating the sense of "place" in ... Irish history and tradition. This is in tune with fellow Ulsterman John Hewitt's love for the ties between man and his townland: "Life is man and place and these have names". However, there is much more than a simple physical representation in these works. Complex layers of oil, acrylic, enamel and wax - built up and then sanded and scraped back - transform the seen into the unseen.
