Bologna: Heirs of Vittorio Bennacci, 1657. 12mo, 102 x 49 mm., contemporary English sheep, some splitting to joints at ends, corners a little worn; H1 and H2 damaged (on facing pages) and stained with slight loss of text, portion of signature and last line of text torn away on H3. FIRST EDITION. "The first general bibliography of botanical books; it mainly follows a chronological arrangement. A prolific writer on botanical, medical, scientific, and historical subjects, Montalbani often wrote under the pseudonym of Antonio Bumaldo" (Breslauer & Folter, p. 92). FIRST EDITION of this rare index of over 2000 plants described in Mantalbini's manuscript volumes in his library (see Pritzel for details of this manuscript).
