Michael Thonet Important and early chair, model no. 14 circa 1855 Bent laminated beechwood, beechwood, cane. 93.2 x 40.3 x 40.4 cm (36 3/4 x 15 7/8 x 15 7/8 in.) Manufactured by Gebrüder Thonet, Austria. Underside of seat rail faintly impressed with manufacturer's mark GB THONET Wien and remnants of a paper label.

The present lot is to be considered unique, as it is the only version from the seven executed in a rosewood finish. Three of the seven examples are in the permanent collections of The Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Bruno Bischofberger Collection; and Die Neue Sammlung, Munich. Read More
