lot of 17. Includes autograph book, 4.75 x 6.75" obl., printed paper covers, with signatures of singers and composers of the turn-of-the-century period, including Sergei Rachmaninoff, Marcella Craft, Julia Culp, Gabriel Ysaye, Florence Stoltzman, plus a loose card with G.T. Beauregard, 1871, and many more, most dated 1890's to 1912. PLUS publicity pamphlets for Leon Rennay, single leaf quarter fold to 3.5 x 6", photo on front, repertoire and venues inside, 7 same, one earlier. PLUS another publicity pamphlet, 5.25 x 7", 4 pp., with numerous press comments dated 1904. PLUS 5 photographs of Rene, including a cab. card with markings of Stevens, Chicago studio, incribed to his aunt Mar 15, 1889; a 4 x 5.5" photo on slightly larger card, with Parkinson, NY marking, inscribed 1890; a cdv from German studio, inscribed Munich, Sept 1905; a 4 x 6.75" photo on larger mount, appears to be publicity shot; and 5.75 x 8.25" photo with Bangs blindstamp, probably also publicity photo. PLUS a hand-colored pocket map, "New Sectional Map of the State of Missouri," Chicago: George F. Cram (Publisher), 1876, in 24mo brown cloth cover, back only present. PLUS a scrapbook with European photos of Papin family ancestors, programs of Rene's performances, cards, calling cards, one interesting card "In consequence of the death of Her Majesty the Queen (Victoria), Monsieur Rene Papin's Recital and Lecture at 21 Upper Wimpole Street will be postponed from Monday, January 28th to Thursday, February 7th," plus various newspaper clippings of obituaries, Missouri history, pencil sketches of Rene and J. Vion Papin, and more. AND a folder with 8 sheets of blank letterhead with "Department of the Interior / U.S. Indian Service." Rene Papin (Leon Rennay), according to some of the newspapers, was a native of the St. Louis / St. Genevieve area, who studied in Paris, Rome and London, and was a well-known baritone, performing in homes of the wealthy and inflential, as well as more public venues, throughout Europe and America. According to his obituary in the scrapbook, Rene was born in 1879 in St. Louis and died in New York of appendicitis on March 20, 1920, at the age of 48. Condition:Conditions variable, but overall very good. One photo has nick at top. Scrapbook typical with variable paper and glue qualities. Pocket map as above.
