Three membranes, opening panel with blessings recited before the megillah reading, 12 columns of text written in brown ink in a neat Hebrew square hand, 24-25 lines, justification: 85 x 65mm, each text panel enclosed by printed borders showing scenes from the Book of Esther, parchment tie attached to opening panel. (Browning and minor soiling to opening panel and small repair to top right corner, light browning to first few panels, a few minor creases, some panels trimmed to edge of image.) AN IMPORTANT MEGILLAH WITH ENGRAVED ILLUSTRATIONS. The opening panel carries eight engraved illustrations, including Queen Esther and King Ahaseurus enthroned and the hanging of Haman and his ten sons. The text panels each carry charming engraved narrative scenes from the Purim story. These borders circulated widely in 18th-century Germany, Bohemia and Moravia, where they exerted tremendous influence on the region's hand-illustrated megillot.
