Miocene Nebraska This large, natural assemblage of eleven turtle shells preserved in original matrix represents a rare occurrence. A grouping of this size, with shells (carapaces) ranging from juvenile to adult is uncommon and highly desirable. The specimens are seen assembled together in what was probably a mass mortality of the entire group, indicating that a cataclysmic geologic event may have caused the death of many animals at once.
