MARTIN LEWIS Rain on Murray Hill . Drypoint printed in dark, greenish black on cream wove paper, 1928. 200x300 mm; 7 7/8x11 7/8 inches, full margins. Edition of 110. Signed and inscribed "imp" in pencil, lower right. A brilliant, richly-inked impression with all the delicate vertical lines of rain distinct, with very strong contrasts and no sign of wear. According to McCarron, "The Thirty-fourth Street Armory at Park Avenue, now demolished, is shown in the print at right. It was a few blocks from Lewis's studio at 145 East Thirty-fourth Street. Lewis printed some impressions of Rain on Murray Hill in green ink that conveys a particularly strong sense of dampness." McCarron 75.
