Manuscript miscellany comprising items of historical, literary, travel and musical interest, including letters etc. by H.M. Stanley, C.J. Fox (as Foreign Secretary to the Prime Minister, about a request for a baronetcy: "What answer am I to give him? certainly not a promise; for I believe nothing would be so improper as to give it him; but may I say that none are going to be made?", docketed 13 June 1783), General Sir John Fox Burgoyne (to the Ambassador at Constantinople, on negotiations at the end of teh Crimean War: "The progress of the negotiations for Peace, is, as your Lordship may imagine, at this moment predominant in the minds of the Public in England;- but even that is not strong enough to deter them from the rabid hold, which like a Bulldog on a bunch of tow, they cling to & would tear to pieces, all the Military & other authorities that 'our own Correspondents' & others have hallooed them on to"), the author and abolitionist Sir James Bland Burgess (to Sir William Hamilton at Naples, recommending to Lady Hamilton's notice Mr Small who "has from nature a very fine voice", 1794), Michael Tippet (signed photograph), Lord Berners (inscribed copy of his Percy Wallingford and Mr Pidger), Arthur Bliss, Admiral Byng (appointing a master cook to the Rippon, Naples, 1719), Viscount Carleton (discussion the rights of Irish representative peers at Westminster), Charles Adams, a Norfolk farrier (offering Mr Wych, of Hockwell cum Wilton, a hunter – "A light grey fifteen hands high: com 7 years old; A very good Leaper: & go a pace; & able to carry 16 stone; Right sound: has not an imper nor eye sore about him; & fashionable & if so be like by any gentle man; his price is 35 guineas", Newmarket, 1733), etc.; with a perspex folder containing sundry items such as a signed photograph of Aldous Huxley, and material by Samuel Prout Brigid Brophy, John Buchan, Mrs Piozzi (signature and conclusion), Woolner, Middleton Murry, Angus Wilson, Clifford Curzon, Q, and others; a modern folder of letters; and further varied material (large quantity)
