MANUSCRIPT COLLECTION -- THEATRICAL AND HUMOROUS. The Book of the Crack, A Little Literary Society, with some MS Notices of the Members by Edward Brewster. 1835. A fascinating 8° volume containing printed material written by or about the members of the society, interspersed with Brewster's ironic annotations, members' signatures and pen-and-ink portraits, and interesting printed curiosa, including four hand-coloured plates accompanying Brewster's 'chivalric poem', 'The Lumber Trooper', and a self-portrait by 'Peter Huston, Printer', executed "with a common printer's bodkin on the back of his cardplate". Contemporary half morocco (spine and corners worn); and , an album (175 x 220mm) containing original sketches by H.M. Brock, Fred Buchanan ( Fun , The Graphic , Strand ) and Thomas Henry -- a watercolour head and shoulders sketch of RICHMAL CROMPTON'S WILLIAM holding a snowball, captioned 'More snow coming!' -- and others, along with signed photographs of Elsa Lanchester, Jack Buchanan, Hermione Baddeley and others, and the autographs of Tallulah Bankhead, pianist Harriet Cohen and others. with [LYTTON, Edward Bulwer (1803-73)]. Money: A Comedy in Five Acts. London: Chapman and Hall, 1848. 8° (soiled). Binder's cloth (marked). HEAVILY ANNOTATED FOR PERFORMANCE and marked 'Property of Mr. J. Rogers', possibly the American actor James Rogers who died in 1877 aged 78. Money was successfully revived at the Royal National Theatre in 1999. With 'Reflexions Chrestiennes et Politiques sur le Gouvernement de Moyse et de Josué'. 2 volumes, 4°, handwritten with several pen-and-ink or wash sketches; and four pencil sketches by Phil MAY. (9)
