Escher Metamorphosis II /G W Breughel 1972 M.C. Escher Metamorphosis II Lithography. Period 1990-2000. Signature in the print This work consists of 4 parts. The posters are in good condition. Height: 22cm. The four posters are approximately 102 cm each and the whole is approximately 408 cm wide. Metamorphosis II While Europe was on the eve of the Second World War, Escher started work on his large 'Metamorphosis II' (19.5 x 400 cm) in October 1939. He worked on it continuously for almost six months. During those months he wrote several letters to his friend Hein 's-Gravezande* in which his obsession with the woodcut became clear. For example, he wrote in detail about his intentions and working method and he freely associated the possible meaning of the colors, the fish, the bees, the birds and the (Saracenic?) tower. The woodcut was in black, green and brown, printed from twenty-three blocks on three combined sheets. The word "metamorphosis" is a springboard for the images. Escher describes the following: "placed horizontally and vertically in the plane with the letters o and m as intersection points, the words gradually transform into a mosaic of black and white squares that in turn grow into reptiles. Now the rhythm changes... each figure simplifies into a regular hexagon. Hexagons are reminiscent of the cells of a honeycomb-----images of birds, fish and even a city, and then back to abstract shapes and letters." Photos are part of the description, see pictures to judge by yourself its overall condition. Be safely packaged and sent worldwide.
