Louis Roederer, Cristal Brut 2002 Louis Roederer, Cristal Brut 2002 60% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 17% oak fermented. Great minerally nose, tight and intense at this young (6 years old) age. Wonderful rich, opulent taste which opens out on the palate. So elegant, emphatic and clean-cut at the same time. That real gravitas of top crus underneath the beauteous sheen. Ripe, plush finish. My most recent bottle was disgorged in December 2008 and tasted exactly a year later. Sugared flowers and caramel on the nose, with toasted hazelnuts, red fruit and white chocolate. The discreet, silky power of Cristal! On the palate, a crescendo of 'viennoiserie' allied to an amazing crisp finish. Reined in energy with very classy acidity. Taut and well-knit and with a real kernel of concentration. At the end, orange notes. The empty glass gives a strong scent of flowers and honey which is remarkable. SS.
