Louis Majorelle Gilt-Bronze Mounted Mahogany, Parcel Ebonized and Painted Vitrine Circa 1885 In the Louis XVI style, the arched crown surmounted by an inset circular clock having a white enameled dial with black Arabic numerals and a seated cupid finial, above a rectangular case with a frieze with a band of stylized bees and fleur de lis in the Napoleonic style, over a pair of beveled glazed doors with a Vernis Martin cartouche depicting a young couple at a desk with a burning candle, envelope and sealing wax, flanked by tapering elongated arrow filled quiver-form columns, on tapering circular legs ending in capped feet. Height 6 feet 10 inches, width 31 3/4 inches, depth 15 inches. With the exception of a break in the lower interior corner of the front glazed door (the two broken off pieces from this corner are present) the vitrine is in generally good condition; the right facing quivar columnar support is slight loose; some of the mounts are loose and some of the nails/pins are now missing; the vitrine has been electrified interior fabric lining is fraying; the bees that surround the painted scene with the couple are partly decorated with inlaid mother-of-pearl; appears to retain all of its mounts and the mounts appear to be consistent; retains a key and the key and locking mechanism work; stamped on the reverse side: L. MAJORELLE
