LOCKE, John (1632-1704). The Works ... The Third Edition. London: Printed for Arthur Bettesworth... LOCKE, John (1632-1704). The Works ... The Third Edition. London: Printed for Arthur Bettesworth (and others), 1727. 3 volumes, folio (317 x 205mm). Engraved portrait of the author in vol. one, engraved frontispiece of the author's tombstone in vol. II, woodcut headpieces, initials and ornaments (some mainly marginal staining, principally to the index of the first vol.). Contemporary panelled calf, spines gilt with red morocco lettering-pieces and raised bands (joints splitting, quite heavily rubbed and scuffed, only small remnant surviving of lettering-piece to vol. II). Provenance: large (almost full-page) Trinity College Dublin prize-label in all 3 vols. for David [?]Mellefont, dated 1736, and with the college's coat-of-arms stamped in gilt on the covers; old signature of [?]J. [?]Bruysman on first title; annotation and underlining to some parts of the text in different coloured pencils or crayons. Attig 851; Yolton 366. (3)
