The sculpture was damaged in delivery to Knoedler, November 2004. It was returned to the artist in March, 2005. Lee Bontecou repaired the art work, and it was returned to Knoedler in June, 2005. The repair consisted of rebuilding the back leg using cement, copper and steel. She rebuilt the back of the piece by adding new cement around the original terra cotta and she also worked on the front leg to stabilize it. The base has been re-sooted to darken it and the bird is stabilized on the base by the use of a found piece of black porcelain that Lee has wedged behind the back leg. This piece is loose and can be removed, but won't fall out. Lee also attached the bird permanently to the base.
