LAURO, Pietro. De Le Lettere ... Il primo libro . Venice: [Michele Tramezzino], 1553. 8° (152 x 100mm). Printer's device (not in Vaccaro) on title, ornamental initials opening Lauro's dedication to Francesco Chimenti and address to the reader, 5-leaf table. (Tiny worming in quires F and G, some light browning or spotting, a few scribbles on last page.) Contemporary Venetian brown goatskin, blind fillet frame enclosing gilt panel on sides with central shield and border composed of short arabesque stamps, the front cover stamped "F CHI", blindstamped spine, edges gauffered and gilt (front hinge split, lacking 4 ties). Provenance : Francesco Chimenti (binding); Giuseppe Martini bookseller (collation note on front pastedown). First edition of a rare work, BOUND FOR THE DEDICATEE, Francesco Chimenti. The letters, of a strong moral nature, are addressed to numerous recipients, including Isabetta Navagiera, Serena Lancilota, Lucretia Gonzaga de Gazuola, and the printer Tramezzino. Adams L-289; A.
