Large collection of correspondence from Lawrence Ferlinghetti to Kirby Congdon Author: Ferlinghetti, Lawrence Place Published: San Francisco Date Published: 1962-63 Description: 10 signed stamped postcards, both typed and handwritten, a typescript letter, 4 signed typescript postcards, various other ephemera. Approximately 20 pieces in all. A selection of postcards and other pieces of correspondence from Lawrence Ferlinghetti to poet/editor Kirby Congdon. The correspondence generally discusses various publishing ventures, manuscript sales, legal details of agreements, contracts, etc., a number concerning Gregory Corso. Congdon was Corso's informal agent in the early 1960s. A wonderful window into this busy time in Ferlinghetti's business and writing career. Comprises: 10 stamped postcards from Ferlinghetti to Kirby Congdon, from 1962-63. Most typed, a few handwritten, all signed or initialled in Ferlinghetti's hand, a few with a doodle self-portrait. Most on City Lights printed card stock. 4 typewritten notecards, signed by Ferlinghetti, with content similar to the postcards. Small scrap of paper in Ferlinghetti's hand: "Dear Kirby, Come round 4pm Sat./ Corso still here?/ Where?/ call me Chelsea Hotel?/ Leave message - Ferlinghetti." 2 pp. Typescript letter on single sheet of City Lights letterhead, dated "3 Sept. 62." Signed by Ferlinghetti along with a doodle, corrections in his hand. The letter discusses various publishing ventures, and Brown University's desire to obtain numerous City Lights publications. Typescript on single page of typing paper from Congdon discussing prices for a few Ferlinghetti manuscripts. With a handwritten note in pencil by Ferlinghetti dated "9/28/62." Typescript on single sheet of typing paper, being a bibliography of works by Ferlinghetti, date stamped Nov. 3, 1962. With corrections in Ferlinghetti's hand, intialled and dated at the bottom: "Comeplete biblio - LF - 10/30/62." Check from Kirby Cogdon to Ferlinghetti for $35, issued by Chase Manhattan Bank, signed by Ferlinghetti on the verso: "Thank you very much - Ferlinghetti." With perforated stamp. 3 blank City Lights pictorial postcards, 1960s. Three stamped City Lights mailing envelpes addressed to Kirby Congdon.
