Beschreibung:

KHALDEI, YEVGENI (1917-1997) Selection of eight gelatin silver prints , including the classic images Churchill, Roosevelt, and Stalin at Yalta, Raising a flag over the Reichstag, Berlin, Suicide of a National Socialist Family, The Nuremberg Trials, and three others. Six approximately 8 3/8 x 11 1/4 inches (210 x 290 mm) N.B. sizes differ slightly; and two in smaller format, one attached to an envelope including a negative, presumably from the photographer's collection. All but the last are signed in pencil on the verso. Condition generally fine, slight crease to one corner of the third image. One of the most significant Russian photojournalists, Khaldei was born into a Jewish family in the Ukraine, and experienced the horrors of pogrom and famine as a young child. He showed an early interest in photography, and by the age of 18 was attached to the Tass news agency. He covered the entire period of the war between Russia and Germany, and many of his images of that period are icons of the period. His single most memorable image is the Soviet flag being raised over the Reichstag, while fighting was still in progress in the lower levels of the building. C
