KENNEDY, JACQUELINE Fine letter signed to Oleg Cassini in advance of the 1960 presidential election. Washington: no date [but Fall 1960]. Four page autograph letter in blue ink signed "Jackie", written on the recto and verso of two sheets of "3307 N Street, N.W./Washington, D.C." stationery. 8 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches. Drink ring to first page over some words, rust stain to upper margin from paperclip . A fine letter preceding the election: "Dear Oleg- Nothing would delight me more than to get clothes from you - as that will be a major problem for me if Jack wins & I would love to do it with a friend." Mrs. Kennedy continues to describe her needs as she enters "public life," such as springtime clothes being prepared immediately and that "Your clothes don't look well on me - How I wish they did - but they are for a much more slinky type of figure than mine ... I like simple covered up things." The soon-to-be First Lady goes into detail about the French fashion houses of the day where she will no longer be able to visit: "Givenchy is where I have always gone - It would be SO easy if I could get everything from him but I can't & if Jack were elected I'd never expose myself to that charge. I have been trying to find American clothes I like - it's so difficult when I can't go into stores or wholesale houses" and later reports "I don't mean that I just want you to slavishly copy Givenchy for me - it's just to give you a steer on the sort of thing I like." Mrs. Kennedy also informs Cassini "I know exactly the kind of dress I want if I go to an Inauguration Ball so that's no problem." A fine letter from the dawn of Camelot. C Estate of Oleg Cassini 19th Street Townhouse, New York
