JULES EGGERT, ATLIN, BRITISH COLOMBIA, CANADA, A PROSPECTORS CONCH SHELL CAMEO BROOCH AND BRACELET CIRCA 1910 The oval shell cameo carved with the profile of Flora, wearing a diadem and flowers in her hair, within a radiating gold nugget style surround, stamped to the reverse J. Eggert Atlin; the bracelet with squared links with triangular pierced sections, with applied gold nugget decoration, the clasp with an oval shell cameo carved with the profile of a lady within a gold nugget style border, signed J. Eggert Atlin, with belcher link safety chain Size/dimensions: brooch 4.6cm long; bracelet 18cm long Gross weight: 49.9 grams Jules Eggert (1855-1922) was born in Switzerland and moved to Atlin, British Colombia in 1899, a year after the start of the gold rush which began after gold deposits were discovered in the region. His jewellery store, built in 1902, was burnt down in the catastrophic fires that took place in the area in 1914. The brooch and bracelet were given to the vendors great aunt in 1913 by a close friend that had travelled to Atlin. Condition Report: The shell cameo has some slight nibbles to the high relief flowers, the setting has some slight tarnishing, the signature to the reverse is clear, there is a small old test patch to the back of the brooch, which we have used to test the brooch setting, it tests as a higher carat gold. Brooch 24.4 grams gross. There is wear and thinning between the links from use, however there is still use left, the clasp is in good working order, the cameo has some rubbing to the high relief points. The safety chain is later. The setting tests as a higher carat gold. 25.5 grams gross Condition Report Disclaimer
