Joslin's 12-inch Terrestrial Globe, with cartouche Joslin's Terrestrial Globe containing all the Late Discoveries and Geographical Improvements, also the Tracks of the most celebrated Circumnavigators. Compiled from Smith's new England Globe, with additions and improvements by Annin & Smith. Revised by G. W. Boynton. Manufactured by Gilman Joslin, Boston, made up of twelve hand-colored gores densely labeled with the names of major cities, mountain ranges, the tracks of explorers, including Cook's in 1771 and 1775, and the place of his death in 1779, the U.S. Expedition of Wilkes in 1840 - 1842 and 1888, the Antarctic expeditions of Enderby, Wilkes and Weddell, Australia also labeled as New Holland, the tropics marked in red, the Equatorial divided by hours of the day, days of the month and months of the year, the Ecliptic by the Gregorian and Zodiacal calendars, with Analemma, two polar hour rings and a brass pointer, in brass full meridian ring divided 0-90 ° in four quadrants, and paper horizon ring with calendar, equinoctial and zodiacal scales and sigils, on cast-iron tripod stand with scrolling decoration and the original verdigris finish, ht. 18 in., (some spots and abrasions, horizon ring split).
