Jagger, Mick 10 AUTOGRAPH LETTERS SIGNED (ONE INCOMPLETE) AND A BRIEF AUTOGRAPH NOTE INITIALLED, TO MARSHA HUNT a remarkable series of passionate, thoughtful and articulate love letters written whilst filming Ned Kelly in Australia in 1969, when Jagger was at the height of his creative powers and the potent symbol of rebellious youth and social change, written to his lover, the image of “Black is Beautiful” and the inspiration for “Brown Sugar”, on their relationship and his feelings for her, his experience of filming and impressions of the Australian outback, his remarkably wide-ranging cultural interests (“...I toy through Nijinsky's diaries…”) and future career plans, his regret at missing the Isle of Wight Festival and other aspects of pop culture (“…John & Yoko boring everybody…”), with oblique references to the death of Brian Jones and his increasingly difficult relationship with Marianne Faithfull, one letter incorporating the full lyrics for the song “Monkey Man” rewritten with three additional lines, 19 pages, folio, headed stationery of Chevron Hotel, Sydney, J.H.A. Sykes, Palerand, Bungendore, New South Wales, and Woodfall Limited, Bondi Junction, New South Wales, some letters dated, “Sunday the Moon” [i.e. 20 July, the day of the moon landing] to Sunday 31 August 1969, with nine autograph envelopes and three envelopes addressed in the hand of Alan Dunn Jagger’s driver, postmarked 11 July to 15 September 1969 [together with:] two autograph postcards signed or initialled, no date, one posted from Denmark; a typed letter signed, 1 page, 11 July 1974; a fan letter to Jagger, 1 page, 20 July 1969, with enclosed photo, mentioned in one of the letters; a track list in Jagger’s hand listing nine Rolling Stones songs with brief comments (“OK”, “dodgy”, etc.) and a note on the verso (“I didn’t wanna use yoor rotten ole piano anyway. So there”), c.1969; two autograph postcards and one note signed by Alan Dunn 1969-70; and three related notes, including a note by Marsha Hunt written when taking the initial phone call from the Rolling Stones management to appear in a photo shoot for “Honky Tonk Women”, spring 1969 (see below)
