First Edition. Sinkankis 3702 - "A complex, large work, by far the best yet written on the subject..." Also noted by Sinkankis as the scarcect of Kunz's major works, containing information that does not appear elsewhere in the gemological literature. With inscription on front free endpaper, "Presented to The Pen & Brush Club, New York, by Alfred Rose, March 1918," with the bookplate of that institution below the inscription, Rose's bookplate on front pastedown. Old pocket on rear pastedown. Lot Amendments Condition: Some rubbing and soiling to covers, chipping to spine label, wear to corners and spine ends; front hinge tender, overall very good.
