Footnotes The twelfth to the fifteenth centuries are known as the golden age of Islamic glass production. The main centers for glass production at this time were Syria and Egypt with the production of enamelled, gilded, carved and lustre painted glass wares being renowned. It is also during this period that there was an increase in the interaction between the Middle East and Europe, and the Crusades allowed for the appreciation of Islamic glassware in the West, and for innovative styles to be created at places, such as Venice, which saw the mixing both eastern and western designs.
