Beschreibung:

ISLAMIC GLASS VESSEL GROUP 12th-15th century AD A mixed group of glass vessels comprising: a candelabrum with broad discoid base and collar to the stem; an octagonal-section jar with narrow neck; a kohl pot with three flange legs; a dimple-bottomed jar with tapering neck and flared rim. 390 grams total, 6-11.5cm (2 1/2 - 4 1/2"). Fine condition. [4] Provenance Property of a North West London gentleman; formerly with a central London gallery in 1990. Footnotes The twelfth to the fifteenth centuries are known as the golden age of Islamic glass production. The main centers for glass production at this time were Syria and Egypt with the production of enamelled, gilded, carved and lustre painted glass wares being renowned. It is also during this period that there was an increase in the interaction between the Middle East and Europe, and the Crusades allowed for the appreciation of Islamic glassware in the West, and for innovative styles to be created at places, such as Venice, which saw the mixing both eastern and western designs.
