Irish School,18th Century Lambert Brabazon as a Mid-Shipman Oil on canvas, 76 x 63cm, (30 x 24.75'') Indistinctly signed and dated 1765 Lambert Brabazon, who later became Captain, had a distinguished career in the Royal Navy. In 1796 he married Miss Grey, sister of Dr Grey of Jervis Street, Dublin. In 1805 he was stationed in Dublin as Captain of the H.M.S. Dorset. Lambert Brabazon was also painted by Irish artist Robert Hunter and this piece is now in the collection of the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich (Cat No. BHC 2568) and in later life, 1784, by Nathaniel Hone the Elder RA (Gorry Gallery Nov 2003 front cover illustration).
