A large historiated initial “V” (up to 117 x 156 mm), cut from an illuminated manuscript choirbook on vellum, the initial in particolored red and blue enclosing a scene of the Virgin in a blue cloak, hands in prayer, being borne aloft by six angels, on a ground of blue sky with dark blue clouds and terraced green hills below; penwork filigree surround in red and dark brown, marginal figure of a kneeling monk in a brown habit with banderole 'O mater dei memento mei.' Verso with part of 3 lines of the text in a gothic liturgical hand and music on a 4-line red stave; matted. Condition : slight rubbing. This large initial ‘V’ is doubtless from the invitatory 'Venite adoremus' at the opening of Matins, feast of the Assumption, 15 August.
