Title, dedication and 24 fine aquatint views colored in a contemporary hand. 19th-century half calf and marbled boards, spine with gilt floral tooling, blue edges (rubbing to spine). Provenance : Donaueschingen, Court Library, Princes of Fürstenberg (ink stamp on title and last leaf). FIRST EDITION of this rare collection of 24 superbly colored aquatint views of Pompei. After the excavations of the 18th-century, Pompeii, became an important stopping point of the Italian Grand Tour. Huber's view reflect this interest. The aquatints are based on his own observations of 1817. The work is known in two editions, an uncolored edition and this finely colored edition. Brunet III:357.
