A 19th century African Anglo Zulu Nguni people war or warrior shield also know as Isihlangu, Ihawu or Ingubha in Zulu, and Ikhaka or Ikhawu in Xhosa. The shield comprising of an ovoid raw cowhide from the Sanga Nguni cattle being pierced and leather weaved with wooden pole handle to the reverse. The front having two columns of small horizontal slits through which leather loops secure the central wooden pole . Measures; 84cm x 59cm
