HORAE B.M.V., use of Rome (Latin). Hore beate Marie virginis secundu[m] usum Romanum totaliter ad longum sine require. Cum multis suffragiis & orationib[us] de novo additis. Paris: Germain Hardouyn [calendar dated 1528-1545]. 8vo, 158 x 100mm. (6 3/16 x 3 15/16 in.), eighteenth-century sharkskin, covers panelled in blind, rubbed, upper outer joint cracked at foot, first leaf slightly creased and rubbed, slight rubbing to a few borders and to large miniature on B1r, 4 or 5 leaves with early (pre-printing) restorations to vellum, traces of damp affecting text and borders on F5v-6r and K1, small stain to upper blank margin catching borders of about 10 leaves (H3-I1) . PRINTED ON VELLUM. Collation: [A]-K8 M8 (apparently complete), 88 leaves. Roman type. 32 lines. Hardouyn's large device on title-page, Anatomical Man metalcut on [A]2r surrounded by 4 small metalcuts of the humours, 15 large mostly oval metalcuts, of which 14 three-quarter or half-page and 1 full-page (the first of two Annunciation cuts, on C1v), and 20 smaller cuts, all the cuts FULLY ILLUMINATED IN GOLD AND COLORS, PRESUMABLY IN THE HARDOUYN ATELIER, the illuminations in a rectangular format to a design mostly differing from the underlying metalcut, all within architectural borders painted in red ink and liquid gold, illuminated floral and arabesque half-borders on a gold ground supplied to every text page, one illuminated initial (on [A]1v), 4-line initials supplied in gold on a parti-colored blue and russet ground, 1- and 2-line initials and line-fillers on russet or blue ground.
