TRAVEL - MACKENZIE, Sir George Steuart Travels in the island of Iceland during the summer of the year 1810. Edinburgh, Archibald Constable and Company & London, Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme & Brown, Cadell & Davies, William Miller and John Murray 1811. 4to. Printed by Thomas Allan and Company. Full blind-tooled calf with gilt floral ruled covers and blindstamp (edges chafed), new calf spine with raised bands, gold-tooled compartments and spine title on lettering piece, marbled endpapers. With 16 plates: 8 hand-coloured plates and 8 engravings: 4 views, one of which a folded view of Reikiavik, 2 full page maps and one large hand-coloured folded map, a full page music score: "Ancient Sacred Music of Iceland" and a geological sketch. Also included are 4 folded tables (social and economic figures) and one p. with sheet music: "Ancient Sacred Music of Iceland". Added: a printed 'Member list' to be filled in by hand: "Each Member is requested, as soon as he has read a Book, to forward it in the following Order: and if he should be from home, to order his Servants to do the same [...]" (one edge pasted on last blank leaf before half title). First edition. Skilfully restored, new spine, edges worn, some waterstaining, but good copy. Delightful colour illustrations, especially the Iceland Costume plate. Name entry by Donald Mackenzie, son of the author.
