Finely-bound in crushed burgundy morocco gilt by Howell of Liverpool, spines gilt in compartments, gilt edges (extremities rubbed, a few scuff marks, one more pronounced on upper cover of vol. II). EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED WITH 97 LITHOGRAPHED AND ENGRAVED PLATES, some printed in colours, many captioned in pencil. The work also includes an example of an early railway ticket (illustrated below) for a journey between Liverpool and Warrington printed on reddish-brown paper and dated 1832 (see Introduction). (2)
