Enamel, signed on the obverse, HBone, signed and inscribed on the counter enamel, Catherine Isabella Vansittart/ second Daughter to Lord Auckland/ London/ June 1811/ Painted by Henry Bone RA/ Enamel painter to His Majesty/ & the Prince Regent, gilt-mounted on a rectangular papier-mâché frame, together with a silhouette of Catherine Vansittart's uncle, Sir John Eden 4th Baronet (1740-1812) by the Studio of John Miers (British, circa 1758-1821), in profile facing right, painted on plaster within a verre-églomisé surround, the rectangular papier-mâché frame with trade label verso (111 Strand, London), a 19th century ivory miniature of Catherine Vansittart's brother, George Eden, 1st Earl of Auckland, GCB, PC (1784–1849), a silhouette behind, together with a printed copy of the miniature and a mid-18th century Continental School ivory miniature of a gentleman wearing a red coat, all in papier-mâché frames, a wax profile of a child (cracked) and a mid-19th century shell cameo of a classical male bust, signed, Neri F. Roma.
Oval, title miniature 89mm (3 1/2in) high (7)FootnotesCatherine Isabella Eden (1778–1810) was the second daughter of William Eden 1st Baron Auckland, PC (Ire), FRS (1745-1814). She was one of six sons and eight daughters. A member of the influential Eden family, her grandfather was Sir Robert Eden, 3rd Baronet of Windlestone Hall, County Durham and her uncles included the MP, Sir John Eden 4th Baronet, Sir Robert Eden, 1st Baronet (last Royal Governor of Maryland) and Morton Eden, 1st Baron Henley (a diplomat).
Catherine married the Rt. Hon. Nicholas Vansittart (1766-1851) in 1806. She sadly died after just four years of marriage following a period of illness. Lord Vansittart became Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1812-1823 and was created Baron Bexley in 1823. As the couple had no issue and Lord Vansittart never re-married, the title became extinct upon his death.
